I once again find myself in Texas. Having unpacked my life from a series of boxes, I am now well ensconced in my new apartment. It's refreshing to be back.
One thing that struck me the past few days has been the number of "Help Wanted" type signs. While most of the ones I have seen have been for low pay, unskilled labor, I know a great many people up north are looking for any work, including of that sort. Whether this is just an anecdotal anomaly or reflective of Texas actually being in notably better shape, I am unsure, but I find it interesting nonetheless.
In other news, I am now possessed of a kitchen, and am in search of easy, tasty recipes. Any suggestions?
I'll try to have a real post up in the next couple days.
We're glad to have you back, bud.
ReplyDeleteA friend of mine in west Texas was originally from the Chicago area. When his wife got her degree and was able to legally teach, they couldn't find any teaching jobs up north. They wound up moving down here and settling down. This was in 1980, and they're planning on staying out west even after retirement. He seemed to have the opinion that things have stayed that way up north in regard to the job pool.
Here's to the next 16 weeks of success for you, Scribbler.
I'm certainly glad to be back.
DeleteAt this point I've heard a number of variations on that same basic story. It's not particularly surprising.
Thanks much.
What sort of foods are you looking for recipes for?
ReplyDeleteReally anything that is relatively inexpensive and not terribly difficult to prepare. I am a big believer in variety as the spice of life, so I'm looking to try all sorts of stuff.
DeleteQuick easy bread recipe the only catch is it requires beer and the end result is very similer to sourdough bread in flavor?
DeleteI have a recipe for soft molasses cookies that are to die for but I'd not call it easy, simple yes, easy no...
*goes digging through recipe archives*
Beer is tricky, as I'm underage. Interesting concept if I'm guessing correctly how it works though.
DeleteReally I'm up for any sorts of recipes. I already have a source of pretty tasty molasses cookies though, so I'm fairly well set for that though.
Y'all got any good Mexican food up in Chicago?
ReplyDeleteSome. Depends on where in Chicago you are. It's possible to find good Mexican of lots of levels though.
